Most people know about jsFiddle because it is an amazing tool that allows you to quickly test and share small pieces of code. No wonder my jsFiddle examples post is getting a ton of traffic. But, there are many other awesome web based sandbox testing tools that you might find useful. Did you know that there are SQL and NodeJS sandboxing tools out there? It is so convenient to quickly mess around with code online and collaborate with other programmers. Below you will find some of the best free code playgrounds and sandboxing tools for testing, debugging and sharing your code snippets (I put my favorites in bold).

1. JSFiddle – supports JS, CSS, HTML and dominates in this space with a simple approach and great features like sharing, embedding, etc.

2. JSBin – looks very similar to JSFiddle and allows HTML, JS, and CSS.

3. Tinkerbin – another code playground for HTML, JS, and CSS.

Today, I was introduced to Runnable and it is pretty impressive. It let’s you runa and share code in the browser and it supports php, python, nodejs and a variety of APIs. Also, Plunker is an interesting tool for creating and sharing web development work that uses the ACE editor, lets you split code into multiple files, live preview, etc…

Making registry keys portable

With the PortableApps.com Launcher it’s easy to make a registry key that an application uses portable.

First of all, when using any of the registry sections in your launcher configuration file, you must set [Activate]:Registry to true, or else they will not work. If something doesn’t seem to be working, check that value first. You probably didn’t set it.

When you have an application that uses a key like HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AppName, you can make that portable with a line in the [RegistryKeys] section like this:

A closer look

Kitto is an engine for creating data-driven web applications. This means that Kitto offers tools to ease the creation of applications that display and allow to manipulate data stored in a database. It is made in Delphi, and it is mainly aimed at Delphi developers not wanting to learn the intricacies of HTML, CSS and Javascript but wanting to get the job done quickly. 

As such, Kitto is not a general-purpose tool for creating web sites. 

A Kitto application is based on a set of text files in yaml format called the Metadata. Metadata contains the mapped database objects (Models), the user interface descriptions (Views and Layouts) and the general configuration parameters such as database connection. A Kitto application may as well contain business rules and controllers (custom user interface elements) written in Delphi. 

Kitto roughly follows the MVC paradigm for data presentation. 

Kitto offers the following features for application development:

Unfortunately it is currently only available in German. From our point of view, this is the best and most comprehensive article written in 2005 that critically deals with the development of cars. We read a lot, but this article really encouraged us to continue.

The Foundation is a separate legal entity and has three trustees, Adam Brett, Anthony Dawton and Hugo Spowers. Hugo leads the Riversimple project; the other two trustees are independent.
